Why It’s Possible: Transforming Limiting Beliefs

July 3rd, 2008 by kokx

22E9
If you could change anything in your life right now, what would it be? And why haven’t you done it yet? If you’re like most of us, the answer lies in your existing beliefs.

We often forget the powerful role our beliefs play in creating what we want. We can visualize, affirm, set goals, and work hard till the cows come home — but if we don’t believe something is possible, we will resist the formation of it in our lives.

The good news is, once you understand how your beliefs are holding you back, you have full control over changing those limiting beliefs - and your life will change in awesome and spectacular ways!

Let’s take a look at what most of us do when we decide we want something. We first express a desire or set a goal. I want to lose weight. I want to make more money. I want to buy a new car. Then, we immediately start coming up with reasons why it’s not possible. I don’t have time to exercise. My company isn’t giving pay raises this year. I can’t afford a new car.

What if, by changing those limiting beliefs, we could make the impossible become possible?

It’s important to understand that to us, our beliefs are FACT. We have convinced ourselves that those facts are “truth.” However, think a moment about all the other “facts” that ended up not being true. We used to believe the earth was flat. We used to believe the sun revolved around the earth. We used to believe that space travel was impossible. We used to believe that a cancer diagnosis was an automatic death sentence. Ditto with AIDS. None of these things are “true” now, are they?

Think about some of the truths you have formed about your own life. Are they really true?

I’m not worthy of a loving relationship.
I’ll never have a lot of money.
Rich people are rude.
Money is evil.
I’m not talented, I don’t have any marketable skills.
Everything always goes wrong for me.
I have the worst luck of anyone I know.
I can’t do that.
I don’t have what it takes to be successful.

If you change these “facts” in your own mind, what might happen? You might attract a loving relationship. You might have a lot more money. You might recognize your own potential, start experiencing good fortune on a regular basis, and reach the level of success you dream about. Sounds good, doesn’t it? :-)

But how? How do we change these truths in our own minds? This is the fun part. We have to convince ourselves that what we want is POSSIBLE.

Recently I’ve been playing a little game with myself called, “Why It’s Possible.” I invite you to play along in your own life, because it is incredibly empowering and it will blast away those limiting beliefs and begin attracting what you desire.

As I described above, most of us will state a desire and then immediately begin telling ourselves why it’s not possible. With my game, “Why It’s Possible,” we simply add on some new thoughts that help us see why our desire IS possible. Here’s how it works.

We state a desire: I want to lose weight. Limiting beliefs come up: Diets don’t work for me, I don’t have time to exercise. We then deliberately begin formulating ideas about “Why It’s Possible”: I don’t have to diet to lose weight, I can just moderate how much I eat. I can fit more activity into my routine by parking my car farther away or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. There are plenty of slender, healthy people in this world who don’t diet or exercise much! If they can do it, I can do it too.

Let’s try it with another desire: I want more money. Limiting beliefs: My company isn’t giving pay raises this year. I don’t have the energy to get a second job. I’ve got too many bills. Why It’s Possible: Money can come to me in so many ways, it doesn’t have to be through my job. Money can come to me through lottery winnings, inheritance, unexpected bonuses, or I can even start a fun part-time business!

Here’s the key: YOUR “WHY IT’S POSSIBLE” IDEAS MUST BE BELIEVABLE. If you don’t believe in their validity, your limiting beliefs will NOT be transformed. That’s so important to understand! With some beliefs, it might take time to come up with true, legitimate possibilities that you can honestly believe in.

Here’s another important key: Reinforcement WILL be necessary. For smaller beliefs, you might be able to change them quickly and almost effortlessly. But for the big ones, you might need to keep playing the “Why It’s Possible” game over and over.

As you keep reinforcing your new beliefs and you begin to believe that they really are possible, more and more doors will begin opening for you. That’s what’s been happening in my own life since I began playing this little game. Not only am I getting more of what I ask for, I’m getting things I didn’t ask for. Everything is beginning to flow so much more smoothly and effortlessly. It will for you too, if you’re willing to believe. :-)

An Introduction to Exercise

July 2nd, 2008 by kokx

10BC
Aerobic and anaerobic are the two categories of exercise that you can perform. Aerobic exercise refers to the type of exercise wherein you use oxygen and burning fat is your primary source of energy. Anaerobic exercise relies instead on sugar, drawing most of the energy it requires from carbohydrate stores in the body.

Although it is usually believed that you have to perform heavy exercise in order to obtain visible results, this is not so, because fat will be burned regardless of the intensity of the exercise. This means that even light exercise can burn fat.

Light exercise is able to eliminate the lactic acid (a “toxin” produced by your body) from the muscles, triggering the process of cell regeneration. To ensure that you are burning fat and not sugar, it is essential that you follow a couple of guidelines while you exercise:

1. Remember to take deep breaths as you exercise. Breathe deeply, inhaling through your nose and taking the air all the way into your stomach, holding it there for a few seconds and then exhaling through the mouth.

2. You must exercise according to your comfort level. Exercising should make you a little uncomfortable, but not too uncomfortable that you experience pain. The adequate level is that of a little more than half of your maximum physical capacity; say a level of 7 out of 10. You should still be able to talk normally as you exercise. Exercise lightly for about 45 minutes a day and you will notice a definite increase in your energy level.

Don’t use your busy schedule as an excuse to not exercise. If you are really serious about getting fit and healthy, you will find the time to exercise. You can wake up an hour earlier than usual and use that time to exercise. Your lunch break is also a good time for you to exercise. A great help is to find a friend who is also getting into regular exercise. Regular exercise will help you increase your productivity and you’ll find yourself accomplishing things much faster.

Any kind of exercise will do wonders for your heart and lungs, as well as improve your circulatory and respiratory systems. Numerous studies have shown that exercise is beneficial to health and can help prevent the onset of many diseases. If you are on a diet, exercise (both aerobic and anaerobic) is a great way to burn calories and keep your weight down. It also allows you to consume a little more food without necessarily putting on extra pounds.

A sedentary way of life induces a feeling of tiredness. With regular exercise, your blood flow will improve and you’ll find yourself more energetic than before. Exercise is even more important if your job entails sitting down all day long. Many people work at a desk all day and then go home and watch TV in the evening! Over time this will be really detrimental to your overall health.

Each day then, devote just a fraction of your time to perform light exercises. You’ll soon discover that your health is better than ever.

The Early Signs of Pregnancy

July 2nd, 2008 by kokx

10D9
One of the early signs of pregnancy is morning sickness. Sometimes nausea is made worse by fatigue, temperature fluxuations, certain smells and even the sight of food. Morning sickness may even be accompanied by vomiting. The truth is while nausea is one of the early signs of pregnancy and labeled “morning sickness” it may not strike a pregnant woman just in the mornings. Morning sickness and all its discomfort can occur at any time . . . even in the middle of the night. While morning sickness is one of the early signs of pregnancy that generally goes away after the first trimester, there are women who experience morning sickness during their entire pregnancies. Smells, certain foods and other things may cause nausea in a pregnant woman at any time during her pregnancy.

Morning sickness is said to be brought on by changes in a pregnant woman’s hormones. The human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone that is relatively high during the first few months of pregnancy. HCG, changes in estrogen levels and even changes in blood glucose levels can bring about morning sickness. One way to combat a drop in blood glucose is for pregnant women to always keep food in their stomachs. While eating may be the last thing on a woman’s mind if morning sickness is one of her early signs of pregnancy, an empty stomach can make nausea worse.

Eating small snacks throughout the day can go far in helping a woman to combat nausea. Pregnant women who suffer from nausea can usually tolerate eating small snacks. This is usually easier for a woman that trying to consume two or three large meals each day. Pregnant women are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids. This can help to prevent dehydration. Dehydration can occur if a woman is having a lot of vomiting with her morning sickness.

While nausea and morning sickness is one of the most common early signs of pregnancy, it can be very frightening. If a pregnant woman has many episodes of vomiting and it is causing her to lose weight she should notify her OB/GYN. There are occasions when a pregnant mother may have to be put on intravenous fluids or given medication. It is important to note that a doctor will be able to determine if a pregnant woman is experiencing normal morning sickness or if she has an underlying medical condition that is causing her to vomit and lose weight. Other causes of nausea and vomiting could include peptic ulcer disease, gall bladder disease, appendicitis, hepatitis, infections, kidney insufficiency and more. If you are pregnant and you think you are experiencing more than just a dose of morning sickness that accompanies the early signs of pregnancy, you should consult your doctor immediately.

In addition to nausea, other early signs of pregnancy can include changes in breast sensitivity. Many women report that their breasts become very tender and feel full and heavy. Spotting very early in the first few weeks of pregnancy is also fairly common. However, this spotting should be reported to your doctor. Normal spotting will generally be accompanied with a yellow colored mucous. Lack of energy and fatigue is also one of the common early signs of pregnancy as well as frequent urination. Energy levels generally return during the second trimester only to fall again during the third trimester. Many women report they feel the need to frequently urinate throughout their entire pregnancies, while others report this as just a problem during the first and third trimesters.

Build Your Body Like Rome

July 2nd, 2008 by kokx

2507
Apparently, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Yet, people want to lose multiple dress sizes or pant sizes by next weekend by drinking some unknown “juice” that promises quick weight loss (yeah right), or by eating a ton of greasy meat all day (I bet that works all the time…….not), or by popping pills with God only knows what ingredients they have in them (as my grandmother says, “Good luck to you”).

Why?

Why would a logical, smart, good-natured person like you actually think that the list above (and hundreds of other crazy weight loss fads) will actually work? There is no reason to be that desperate. Let me tell you that there is a 99.92308234% chance that as soon as you lose that weight with a “fad” diet, you will gain it back……..and then some.

Do it the right way.

“What is the right way?” you may be asking.

Diet and exercise…….a fitness program……commitment………empowering yourself to make small lifestyle changes that snowball into a new you.

How?

I thought you would never ask. Let me give you 2 EASY, BASIC things for you to do (and these things also go for you intermediate and advanced fitness people, too):

1.Get moving everyday - It always get a good laugh when someone make a “New Year’s Resolution” to get fit. Or claim that they’re going to go to the gym everyday (when they haven’t seen the inside of a gym in months or years). How long does it last? 1 day, 2 days, maybe a week? Why do you think that has happened to you or others? Because that person was not COMMITTED to get moving everyday (or almost everyday). Do you know of a person like this………maybe yourself??? :)

“So you’re saying that you were LAUGHING at me Chris”………

Yes.

Onward.

What are easy ways to get moving?

-Taking a brisk 15 minute walk once or twice daily (outdoors preferably, but not a necessity)

-Pushups - a great overall strength trainer (unfortunately, many people can hardly do any of these, much less do them with proper form). Even if you can only do 1 pushup, try to do 2 tomorrow and 5 by next week. Let it build.

-Crunches - very basic abdominal exercise, but it will get you started. For you advanced performers out there, see how many you can do in 30 seconds or a minute or 2 minutes…..ALWAYS remember proper form, or else 1,546,127 crunches in a day don’t mean squat.

2.Start an exercise program - In order to lose weight and keep the weight off, you have to make a change to start an exercise program (and keep to it!). My advice, don’t go for the jugular so quickly, sit down and draw up a plan on how you can fit it in your everyday life (EVERYBODY can fit in some sort of exercise program, so I don’t want to hear any whining on how YOU don’t have the time). How about this for a quick exercise program (just off the top my head, especially for you, I don’t have the time!!! people out there, lol):

Upon waking in the morning:

-Go for a brisk 10-15 minute walk outside (if possible), remembering to keep the arms pumping and concentrate on taking good, deep breaths. Upon returning home, slowly walk around for 1 minute to cool down (only if necessary), drop and do 10 pushups with arms shoulder width apart, rest for 30 seconds, then do 10 pushups with arms as close as possible together, rest for 1 minute, then finish with 10 pushups with arms far apart (practically speaking). Finish up your “routine” by jumping rope for 2-3 minutes (or longer/shorter depending on your fitness level at that moment).

This is just a SAMPLE, and if you start saying “Chris, I can’t do 10 pushups three times in a row”……….then do 5, or 3, or heck…..even 1. Just get started, you will be amazed how much stronger you will get in the coming days, weeks, months, years. This will build your strength, endurance, coordination, and health all in that 1 tiny workout.

Change your way of thinking…….start slow and build up. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your body won’t be built like Rome in a day either………but YOU can lay the foundation for your own temple that is your body. Don’t wait until your temple starts crumbling and heaven forbid starts to collapse. It may be beyond repair. Rebuild your body, your muscles, your arms, your legs, your organs…………..start now, start small, and make it fun.

Treat your body with respect and it will repay you tenfold. You will begin to understand once you make that change. You will feel alive, energized, and ready to face a new day, everyday.

Make a commitment to “add more bricks” to your temple, make yourself stronger, more flexible, ready to handle any problems that you may encounter. Don’t rely on other people to tell you that your body doesn’t look like Rome. People are too politically correct. I will probably tell you, though :). You can make yourself look like your own personal “Rome.” You just have to get started………..challenge yourself, and lay that foundation.

There are so many ways to get fit, I could write for days……………but I need to stop so YOU can get started on your fitness program.

If you are still hell-bent on trying that new “fad” diet, or drinking that nasty looking liquid that promises quick weight loss in 3 days (I don’t even want to know how)……..I’ll be waiting with open arms when that fails (and it will fail at some point), lol. So, just forget that trash, get started right, and build your body that is something to be proud of. Get started now, and I’ll talk to you soon.

P.S. If you want some more kick butt ideas to make yourself into Rome or even the Statue of Liberty, visit fitnesswithchrisfitnesswithchris, and get started.

Take That Pebble Out Your Shoe

July 2nd, 2008 by kokx

141D
Recently I joined a group of business owners that gets together once a week to help each other out. One of the members of this group, a chiropractor, told a great story last week that I want to pass on - so here it is.

Suppose you are walking along and you notice you have a pebble in your shoe. You are able to shift it out of the way, but it keeps getting back under the ball of your foot and starts to get annoying. What do you do?

You could ignore the problem - keep trudging along in discomfort and hope that the pain goes away. Maybe if you ignore it long enough you’ll forget about it.

You could go to your doctor and get a prescription for some heavy painkillers. Then walk yourself to the pharmacy (annoyed with the pain) anxious for that medication that will finally allow you to deal with your problem. After all, if you mask the pain it’s not really there anymore, right?

You could make an appointment with a surgeon to get a little hole cut in the ball of your foot so that pebble can rest in there and not bother you anymore.

Or you could just take off your shoe and dump out the pebble.

I know, this story is a little ridiculous but it makes a great point. So many people acquire health problems for one reason or another, but instead of removing the thing that is causing the problem they go to incredible lengths to deal with it.

Let’s suppose you have slowly put on an extra 30 pounds over the last couple of decades and it is starting to get on your nerves. Everyone has a different metabolism and some people put on weight much easier than others. But the bottom line reason is that you take in more calories than you burn or put out - that’s it.

You can take the first approach above and ignore it. Maybe your metabolism will change and you will all of a sudden start losing weight - not likely. Or you can just accept the fact that you are not as young as you used to be and gaining a lot of weight is just a normal part of the aging process, except that it isn’t.

You can take the second approach and find that magic pill that will allow you to eat whatever you want and burn off the fat. Or find that pill that just makes food look disgusting and destroys your appetite. I know you see these advertisements on TV all the time, but do they really work? No.

You can take the third approach and go to the surgeon for gastric bypass surgery. Get them to cut out part of your stomach so that you just can’t eat much anymore. This may work for the very small number of people that are morbidly obese for genetic reasons, but not for most of us.

Or you can address the problem. Eat less and exercise more. Just take off your shoe and dump out the pebble.

I know it’s not that easy to reverse decades of habits and lifestyle choices, but this is really the only approach that directly addresses the problem without simply masking the symptoms. I know many advertisers tell you what you want to here - that you can lose weight without really trying - but they’re just playing your emotions to lighten your wallet, not your waistline.

Start small by replacing one bad habit with one good one. Don’t try to do it all at once. If you drink soda, replace one soda a day with one bottle of water, then two, three or however many you drink. If you eat huge portions, start using a smaller plate at one meal, then two and three. If you watch too much TV, start walking in place during the commercials of your favorite show, then during the whole show, then other shows. Hopefully, you’ll eventually want to walk outside away from the TV. The point is to start small.

Denis Waitley, former US Olympic Team sports psychologist says “There was never a winner who wasn’t a beginner”. Don’t expect overnight changes. Start addressing the real problems that got you to the place you don’t want to be and change something, one thing. Keep it up and you will eventually find yourself where you do want to be.

The need for instant gratification is the enemy of success.

Resolving Issues On Fast Weight Loss

July 2nd, 2008 by kokx

1EF8
In a world where almost everything moves in a fast-paced environment, people no longer pay attention to “slowly-but-surely” strategies. Everybody wants everything in express, fast, easy, hassle-free, and convenient manner. Even in losing weight, people who are suffering from obesity or those who are morbidly obese want fast weight loss solutions to their problem.

FAST WEIGHT LOSS AND EMOTIONAL EATING

Experts say that fad or fast diets are not recommended because these cannot pave the way for permanent weight loss and control. But there are studies that show that fast weight loss has some short-term benefits like being a powerful motivator in losing weight for good. Some physicians also say that is it okay to have a fast weight loss if the person’s health wouldn’t be undermined or affected.

Fast weight loss can be effective if it’s only used for initial weight loss because this can lead to having balanced diet and doing regular exercise or physical activities. Fast weight loss can even motivate a person to follow a reasonable eating plan and sensible eating pattern so he/she would not regain the weight lost. Although some fast weight loss strategies are allowed, it still doesn’t change the fact that engaging into it without preparation is hazardous to health.

One of the reasons why people become obese is emotional eating. Some of the key factors that trigger emotional eating include anger, depression, and anxiety that lead to eating more food that a regular diet allows.

Experts say that if a person can manage emotional eating, the possibility of losing weight fast and safe is greater.

Here are some tips in combating emotional eating:

- It pays to determine your own mood especially before eating. Doing this will give you a mindset that eating is just a part of solving whatever that is bothering you.

- Analyze and monitor your emotions daily. Checking your emotional levels daily can help you trace the reasons why you indulge to emotional eating and can help you solve these emotions before taking any meal. This can also help you fight the urge to overeat when you get emotionally upset.

- Try to develop new hobbies that will take your mind off food and eating. By keeping yourself busy in other things, you can avoid eating large amount of food on a regular basis.

- Work out a meal plan that you can stick with everyday. By having a concrete reminder of the foods you should and should not eat for the day, you can develop a healthy eating plan that can help you lose weight fast and safe.

- Do regular physical activities such as walk or jogging regularly. Physical exertions can help your body burn unnecessary and unwanted calories.

- Exert more effort to form closer friendships and emotional bonds. Having a company that can give you moral support in your endeavor will help you fight emotional complexities.

- Discover and rediscover a better spiritual health. Analyzing your emotions through spiritual health can be enough motivation to keep up with your weight loss agenda.

- Stick to water therapy. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily can keep your body refreshed and well hydrated so you won’t easily get irritated or upset.

- Choose you treats. Comfort foods such as junk foods should be replaced with healthier alternatives such as fruits or low fat products.

- Learn to forgive yourself. When you blow your diet, forgive yourself. Feeling guilty and depressed will only make matters worst. Instead of dwelling on your self-will, try to be positive by telling yourself you can do better tomorrow.

THE ROAD TO SUCCESSFUL WEIGHT LOSS

Fast weight loss might be a good way to jumpstart a weight loss plan, but it’s significant to keep the long term weight loss goals. In reality, there’s really no such thing as a quick fix or fast when it comes to weight loss. You must bear in mind that if you want to be happy, healthy, and achieve your desired weight for good you better start changing you eating and lifestyle habits.

The Ugly Face Of Quick Weight Loss

July 2nd, 2008 by kokx

13F0
The number of people who are becoming obese-especially in the United States-are increasing as years go by. Due to this trend, products and programs that offer weight loss solutions have emerged in the market today. If you visit supermarkets, drugstores, or even websites, you might notice that the most common weight loss products there are include diet pills-both prescribed and non-prescribed-and food or dietary supplements.

Since losing weight has become tiresome and frustrating to most people, they tend to resort to these products that can help them lose weight, safe, fast, and easy. But are these quick weight loss products effective to permanent and healthy weight loss?

WEIGHING DISADVANTAGES OVER ADVANTAGES

Believing that weight loss products today are safe to use because they are often based in natural and organic ingredients, most obese or morbidly obese people take these to lose weight quickly. Although using these products, as a means of losing weight quickly might be convenient, hassle-free, and easy, its effectivity and safety are not always determined or guaranteed.

According to experts, people who are thinking of having quick weight loss and fad diets should think twice before they try taking in any product or engaging into diets. This is because having quick weight loss can be harmful and can severely damage a person’s body. Aside from creating a “yo-yo syndrome” or inconstant weight losing patterns, engaging in quick weight loss may bring about greater health problems in the future.

Although quick weight loss diets can help you achieve you short-term goals, it cannot permanently help you achieve long-term goals of losing weight. Unlike quick weight loss alternatives, choosing gradual weight loss-by consulting a registered dietician-can provide you professional help and can provide you proven eating choices and patterns that can help you develop the discipline you need in order to lose weight in the long run. You can also learn specific diet recommendations that are suited for your needs if you opt not to engage in quick weight loss alternatives.

Although most people day that quick weight loss by using alternatives can speed up a person’s weight loss, more and more nutritionists and physicians discourage quick weight loss-by any means-because it is not healthy for the body for it may cause extreme physical discomfort like abdominal pains, flatulence and may even lead to more serious illness.

Based on numerous health researches, quick weight loss-achieved through improper diet-overemphasizes a particular food type. By excluding a specific food group or a variety of foods, quick weight loss diets violate the primary rule of good nutrition-that is having balanced diet. Sticking to any quick weight loss diet that veers away from having a balanced diet can cause you nutritional deficiencies not to mention several physical discomforts and minor illnesses. Aside from violating the basic principle of good nutrition, quick weight loss diets also breaks the second significant rule, that is enjoyable eating.

THE BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT

Experts advise that quick weight loss-either by diets or taking in products-greatly affects a person’s total well-being. Aside from altering a person’s basic eating patterns by drastic eating schedules, quick weight loss can even result to more serious health risks if a wrong product is taken. Instead of achieving quick weight loss through improper diet or unsafe weight loss products, authorities in the health and nutrition world advice people who would want to lose weight to stick to the best way of losing unwanted fats-that is to eat balanced diet.

Eating a balanced diet-which include foods that rich is nutrients like fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat dairy products-can help the reduction of weight greatly. Coupled with regular physical activities or exercises that improves cardiovascular health, there’s no way that you cannot lose weight in time.
